I work at a window in the Registrar’s Office at my school and am starting to see an unfortunate trend with men my age. A student will come for help adding a class, he will hand me his form without saying anything and when I am done he quietly says “thanks” and walks away. When I greet him he casually says “hey”, avoids eye contact, and appear dis-interested all the time.
Maybe it is shyness that is just coming out rude, maybe he really does feel like he is better than me, or maybe he just doesn’t care. Whatever the reason, it is unfortunate for him because the simple fact is,
It is manly to be polite
Seriously, it is. While many movies and commercials in our society say to be cold and tough is manly, it really isn’t. It is actually very rude and makes us come off like jerks. Girls don’t like it and its a sure way to lose friends.
When you interact with someone, be outgoing and bold from the beginning, control the conversation, ask questions about them, and smile. You will gain a reputation as being a good guy that people love to work and talk with.
And that, is manly.
